How Does it Work?

Virtual Scanning is a cognitive behavioural test which requires the patient to study the contents of a short video sequence for 15 seconds and to memorise the colours which are present. After 15 seconds the video sequence is overwiped by a precisely selected colour filter. The task for the patient is to use the 'mouse' to select colour from the colour palette and to reintroduce the colours into the video and hence recreate the original colours of the video. There is no right or wrong way - just the patient's own unique way.

Each movement on the mouse, the speed of the task, and the relationship of the recovered picture to the original picture gives the computer information about the person's unique psychological profile which is processed by a sophisticated mathematics programme and hence is related to the person's psychological and medical profiles.

The therapy focusses upon the person's unique psychological profile and/or health profile and is a precisely designed colour therapy which is delivered at frequencies (in the range typically 1-4 hz) which are determined by the programme and which relate to the person's unique health profile.

For those undertaking the therapy: the patient receives a CD with their own unique therapy which they install on their home PC. They are required to complete the therapy which involves studying the contents of the computer screen, for 20 minutes per session, 1-2 times per day. Each block of therapy would take typically one month before re-assessment and adjustment of the therapy. A typical course of therapy would last 3-4 months.
